Pittsburgh annual s-f conference cancelled

I just read today that the 2013 Confluence is cancelled. No, not because of the utter mediocrity of many of its proposed offerings, but because the hotel that was booked closed. The con people say they were told of this only in April, which did not give them enough time to plan something different for the annual July event.

Ah well.

I have attended Confluence (the Pittsburgh Sci-Fi Con) several times. Mostly, I've enjoyed the intimacy and smaller scale of the event. It's too bad the organizers were unaware of the host hotel's problems. (Odd; hotels in Greentree (the Pittsburgh suburb that hosts the con) are generally profitable. With the Casino in downtown, this has been even more the case in recent years. As Jean says, ah well . . .) Let's hope that the organizers remedy the situation for next year. Best wishes to them. The reason was, it was sold to Robert Morris University for student dorms. Who knew?
