"Your burden is lessened," the machines said without emotion." You could alomost argue that the narrator was a jesus figure. ie, not allowing himself to be tempted from the path.

Please don't read that the wrong way. I said what I did about the comparison of the two was was "Species" is such a GREAT story; which in no way denigrates this story's place here. "Species" felt psychedelic in its rendering; like reading or listening to Terrance McKenna. This story felt more like reading Earnest Hemingway. Unless someone absolutely hates Hemingway's style, I would call that being in good company.
