Adrienne and Vicki,

Great stories! Adrienne, I see you and I were thinking along similar lines.
Happy New Year, everyone. To a year full of many new and interesting stories.

Yeah, it's funny how these stories sometimes seem to be on the smae page even though the authors haven't read each others work.
Looks like we're starting off the year with some great stories. Here's to an amazing year of flash fiction!

To those of you in the real world the word 'smae' means 'same'.
Maybe I was partying too hard last night.

It's surprising how often that happens. I keep the contest topics deliberately vague so people have some room to play with.

Of course other times I get nothing like I thought I would.

Excellent story. I like these "long after the fact" stories. Nice one getting in the Al Gore "global warming" nudge; and then it ends up cool.

Just one quibble, if I may. You know from my introduction things like this make me shudder and want to pull my hair out:
Quote:
When the humans knew their culture was dieing....

The correct spelling is d-y-i-n-g.  There is no such word as "dieing". (to dye wool, for example, is spelled; d-y-e-i-n-g) Nothing personal. I'm one of those "comment" correctors you see on comment pages.

Regardless, good job. Great story.
