Title: Are there any copywrites on nursery rhymes?
Post by Adrienne_Ray on Jul 23rd, 2010, 7:38am

I hope I'm asking this in the right place.
You know how Stephen King wrote about the Tommyknockers? I believe that was a jump rope song. Did he have to get permission from somebody to do that?
I'm working on a story that uses the rhyme, "Did you ever eiver iver
In your leaf life lo
See the diver deever devil
Beat his weefe wife woe"
Except I'm changing some of the words. It's not a story about wife beating. So, do I have to get permission from somebody or pay somebody or what?
If I sent Stephen King some more jump rope songs, is there any chance he would pay me?

I'm thinking public domain on something that old.
