Title: Tails of Wonder And Imagination,
Post by Webbie on Feb 13th, 2010, 12:52pm

Legendary editor Ellen Datlow has whipped up something evil and fun for SF/fantasy fans who are drawn to cats. Her new anthology, Tails of Wonder And Imagination, is devoted entirely to felines, and they aren't exactly your cutesy wufflemuffins.

Out this month from Night Shade Books, Datlow's anthology is simply packed with stories, and includes giants of the genre like Stephen King, Kelly Link, Carol Emschwiller, and George R. R. Martin. She's also defined "cat" rather broadly, so you've got everything from sabre toothed tigers resurrected by mad scientists, to manticores, tigers, and house cats. And there is certainly enough here to delight anyone who has been mesmerized by a furry pal who can suddenly turn into a screaming ball of WTF.

Let me tell you something about Ellen Datlow. Waaaay back last summer she issued a come-all-ye to anyone and everyone who has a cat story to be considered for her "forthcoming anthology."

Yeah.

Like a bunch of dumbells, a bunch of us at Whortleberry Press (home of many cat stories) sent her our stories and books. We also complied with her request for a SASE to be returned to us, assuring us of delivery.

Did we ever get our SASEs back?

Hah!

Did we totally waste our time and postage on her?

Yeah!

Although her book sounds good, those of us who know the uncaring duplicity that she invested in it can only term it...A LOAD OF KITTYBOX!

Hmmm.... I wonder what this book will do in sales vs. Ellens reputation as an editor. Or should I say sales due to her rep?

She was at one time a pretty big deal and had a reputation for treating her writers with better than average manners.

Times do change.

Sad but true!
